I worked in a pub (as a waiter) and did some IT work on the side (maintaining websites) while I was in A-Levels. For me, this was really important experience; it taught me that I needed a job that challenged me and gave me a sense of purpose.
Also the money I made working helped me a lot when I went university.
      Great Question,
      Ryan

Before I became a scientist, I was first a baby, and then I was a child, then I was a sister and then I did lots of other things but ultimately I decided that being a scientist is the bestest thing in the world so I decided to do that! 😛

Yes, when I was at school I had a summer job at a small airfield working in the maintenance hanger on light aircraft (2 or 4 seater planes). I also work part time in a gift shop at an arboretum near to my parents house whilst I was at university doing my undergraduate and PhD.

I had a few part time jobs when I was in high school and university. The coolest one was designing computer games 🙂 That was funded by the council, so they had to be educational, but we had a lot of fun – making games where you kill zombies, and if you want a bigger weapon to kill more zombies then you need to answer some questions about French or Maths 😛 (maybe you don’t want to revise French, but everyone wants to kill zombies 😉 )

I did various bits and pieces of work writing software for different things, including a business that made sails for yachts (I lived near a lough where a lot of people went sailing), but really I went straight from finishing my A-levels at school to studying astronomy as an undergraduate. I used to get summer jobs doing research in my department, so I guess I’ve not really ever done anything other than science!
