The drug molecules interact with certain receptors in the central nervous system and brain and that causes hallucinations. A lot of molecules can bind with receptors but only certain ones bind (stick to) in the right way to cause hallucinations. A hallucination is when our normal senses don’t work normally and that makes the world appear different, sometimes in a good way but often in a bad way. Some recreational drugs cause longer term damage to people who take them.
