I was always interested in science at school, particularly biology, and basically I just kept going! I had no idea what I wanted to do when I left school, just that I wanted to study biology and learn more. During my undergrad degree I realised I was really interested in understanding how our bodies do what they do when we are just a bag of cells instructed by DNA.

I worked in both a lab environment and an office environment and really enjoyed both, but ultimately the office job I was doing wasn’t quite sciency enough so I decided to go back to the lab and do a PhD.

I’ve just always been interested in learning and asking “why”. Science allows me to do this nearly every single day in some capacity. It’s tremendous fun and hugely rewarding when things go right.

It started in school and just sort of developed from there really, I wouldn’t say I’ve ever pursued anything hugely special just followed where my path has taken me.
