• Question: In the event of a global cataclysm, what would happen to the tetonic plates?

      I think it would depend on what kind of cataclysm and how cataclysmic it was (if that’s a word). A large meteorite for example could possibly press down on a tectonic plate hard enough to increase the eruption of volcanoes (maybe this happened with the meteorite that may have killed the dianosaurs). But my geologist sister says that it would not change at all the global tectonic plates and there activity. However, maybe a larger collision, like with a moon sized object at least, would stand a better chance of disrupting the tectonic plates.
