Im afraid my research is rubbish for the environment. Because I have to be so careful that everything I use has no bacteria on it, I use lots plastic things only once then throw them away to be sterilized, then put in landfill.

Its not good so at home I try to be really good about recycling and I dont have a car to try to make up for it!

My research is about the environment, so I would hope so!
But, I do travel a lot and use lots of petrol and boat diesel doing surveys, so I guess there is a balance to be had about understanding how our environment is changing and contributing to that change via the research I do to find out how it is changing!!!

Sadly my research isn’t great for the environment for the same reason as Clare. We use a lot of plastic and it all has to be really clean so I don’t give the cells i’m growing infections to keep my results as real results and we use a lot of chemicals and cancer samples from people that all have to be burned or sterilized and disposed of really carefully.

Unfortunately most biology is like that.
