When I worked on the war crimes investigations in Kosovo, we would be working on mass graves that might include hundreds of individuals. We were successful because the international crime court convicted Mladic and Karadzic but of course we didn’t get Milosevic as he died in prison before the court case ended.
As a researcher I’m afraid I don’t work on real cases, but my hope is that cosmetic traces will become a type of evidence that is routinely looked for at crime scenes and used in cases in the future.
