I’m a lecturer at a university so I teach, I do research, I teach local school children and the public about forensic science, I present my work at conferences and events, I train practitioners and I do consultancy so my job is very varied.

I work as a lab technician in a university, I look after a specialised piece of equipment (Scanning Electron Microscope), so am responsible for training staff and students on it. I also teach students, do research into fake medicines and do outreach work with schools.

I’m a research-focused university lecturer, so my job involves mainly carrying out research and supervising my research teams, meeting with collaborators to plan future research and discuss ongoing projects, writing research papers and presenting research at conferences, training research students, and teaching undergraduate students about data science and artificial intelligence.

I do a little bit of everything – as a researcher I have a similar role to Bryan, as a postgraduate demonstrator I teach undergrads and mark their assignments, as an outreach ambassador I try to enthuse school children and encourage them to study science. I’m also currently working on a government grant which involves lots of lab work and analysis, and then there’s the weekend job at the hospital…

Variety is the spice of life! 🤩
