The cause and manner of death is the remit of the forensic pathologist who is medically qualified. Diseases leave different marks on our bodies whether in our bones or our soft tissue. It is a clinical diagnosis that allows determination of the disease burden on an individual.
A histopathologist can examine diseased organs – usually under a microscope – and give a diagnosis. The histopathologist may or may not carry out the actual autopsy, and may also be called upon to give diagnoses for people suffering with illnesses such as cancer.
