Lecturer and Admissions Tutor
I am a full-time lecturer in the department of Forensic and Crime Science at Staffordshire University. My days are spent lecturing and running practical classes, mainly in the area of forensic chemistry. I am also the admissions tutor for the forensic awards so have been busy looking at UCAS forms. When I can find the time I am working towards my PhD investigating whether the geographical origin of heroin can be established by looking at the metal ions present.
My Typical Day:
Lecturing and answering student queries
Most days involve teaching of some sort, whether it is a practical class in the laboratory or crime scene house, a lecture presentation to be delivered or new or updated material to be written. There is also usually marking to be done and feedback to be provided to students. As admissions tutor, I may have to answer queries relating to entry requirements and application processes. Depending on my other committments I may have time to do some analysis as part of my PhD and then there is the dreaded thesis to get written!
What I'd do with the prize money:
I would buy some equipment to help promote science in schools
How would you describe yourself in 3 words?
Talks too much!
Were you ever in trouble at school?
Not really but probably got told off for talking once or twice!
Who is your favourite singer or band?
If you had 3 wishes for yourself what would they be? - be honest!
1. Finish my PhD, 2. Finish my PhD, 3. I think you can see where this is going!
