Ok so I am a pantheist.

This means I believe that the Universe and God are the same thing.

As for how that effects my studies I’ve never really thought about it – but I guess in some ways it does relate to my scientific way of wanting evidence for everything and not believing something I cannot prove

I am not religious. I guess as a scientist I like to see the evidence for things which might be a little incompatible with God. But I try to respect other people’s opinions.

I am an atheist. I do not believe there is a `deity’ or `god’.

I don’t think this has any direct effect on my studies. The question of whether or not god exists lies firmly in the realm of philosophy rather than science.

If someone was claiming that there was a giant man in the sky who keeps that planets moving round the sun then I would have to argue against that claim, but most of the major religions describe god as a sort of entity that exists outside of time and does not have physical form. So I don’t have anything sensible to say about that.

      How about you?

I think we had this one yesterday. I was raised Catholic but don’t adhere to that doctrine as an adult. I do think it gave me a culture of learning and research that directly influenced my becoming a researcher.

I was brought up a Catholic, but stopped being religious when I was about 14 and teachers kept giving me stupid answers to questions (like “It is like that because God made it that way, and we should not question Him” – such a cop-out….).

So now I don’t believe in any religion (I’m atheist I guess), but I don’t have a problem with religious people, as long as they are tolerant of others and don’t try to push what they believe on other people. I really don’t like that – people can be good or evil whatever religion they are, and we see examples of evil people from all religions on the news every day.

So religion doesn’t have any impact on my science at all – I think it’s fine if people like religion, and it keeps them happy, but personally I don’t need it, and I think I can be a good person without it…
