Question: can you always rely on animal testing all the time

I guess there will be a need for animal testing until scientists come up with a reliable substitute – luckily my science never involves animal testing, as I can imagine it must be a very tricky moral thing to have to do experiments on them. But if it helps develop new medicines, I can see why people do it – but I don’t think it should ever be done for cosmetics etc.
