I’d love to continue in science and am happy where I am, but there are more PhD students around than there are postdoctoral research positions (the thing you get after a PhD), and I’m very happy living in Manchester and don’t really want to move. If a place opens up here as I’m finishing, that would be brilliant, but that might not happen, in which case I may look for a different career (probably doing some science or computer related for a company). A scientific background helps with getting that kind of job. Having said that, I am really glad I’ve done this much science and would strongly encourage other people to do the same!

I am really happy with my career choices! I might move around research topics within my area, but I can’t see myself ever wanting to not be doing what I’m doing now.
