At my school we had to do: Maths, English (Language & Literature), ICT and a modern language (Spanish).
Then we could pick separate or dual award (the old name for trilogy) science, so I did separate, and then I had two spaces left, so I did Latin and French — we didn’t have to do the English Baccalaureate. I also did another maths qualification called an FSMQ because I was in the top set for maths.
So overall: English Language, English Literature, Maths, FSMQ Additional Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, ICT, Spanish, Latin, French.

There were some subjects that were mandatory, so I had to study Science (double award – biology, chemistry, and physics), English lit., English, Maths, RE, and PE. I also had to do a modern foreign language, so I picked French. Outside of those subjects, I also chose to study Art, Graphic Design, History, and Business Studies.
I wasn’t really sure where I was going to end up when I was chosing my GCSE subjects (except for a vague, “I would quite like to be a scientist”), so I just picked subjects that I enjoyed and thought might be useful.
