Right now, I’m in the lab answering questions whilst testing my samples. I’m doing some tensile testing on recycled aluminium, for a joint project with Jaguar Land Rover. Tensile testing is where we find out how strong a material is when we pull on it, and how much is stretches by. If we know the material properties, we can work out where we can use the material, so that it doesn’t go to landfill! Every test takes about 7 minutes and ends with a bang, which makes me jump every time.
I’m also writing two grants for Wednesday, around how to make trains lighter and more energy efficient, and proof reading my PhD, Maters and undergraduate student’s work. At the moment I only 4 days a week, so it’s a busy week!
Writing answers on here! That and marking undergraduate lab reports. I got back from an experiment in America last week. I should also be matching known states in cadmium-114 to my data, but I haven’t had a look in a while!
At the moment, I am writing an article for a scientific journal about how we can use the flight sounds of different insect groups to identify them. I’m answering questions on here in between paragraphs 🙂
