I’m on roughly £33k at the moment, which is nice considering I’m still pretty early on in my career.

About £15,000 a year for my PhD stipend (it’s not a salary because I’m paid it to allow me to live here and do the PhD, rather than actually being paid for working) and then I can earn about £2000 a year on top of that from teaching.

I’m in the same position as Emily as a PhD student. You don’t have to pay tax on a stipend, so it’s a bit more money than it sounds.
