I actually started my job six months before my PhD ended, so I was doing both for a little while. The application process was online and was really similar to a lot of job applications – I needed a CV and a personal statement, and they wanted information on my education and previous experience. The interview was fun, though – I had to give a powerpoint presentation!
I managed to get my first job as a scientist a couple months after finishing my science degree. Although I knew I had a good chance of getting the job when I finished University, I was actually travelling around Australia on holiday when I was told that that I’d got the job. It was a nice feeling.
