No I haven’t, but the nuclear industry is a place where a lot of nuclear physicists go if they decide they don’t want to do public research science any more.
There are research scientists that work on nuclear power as well.
Doing science first can be a good way to get into the industry if you are interested!
I have not worked there, but my company is involved with projects at Hinkley so it is possible I might in the future. Are you interested in working there?
I haven’t, but my partner works in nuclear, as does my sister in law. There are multiple cross overs between the work that I do and the work that will be carried out a Hinkley Point C. If you’re interested in this kind of stuff, look up the ITER project in France too – their science is exciting!!
No, my science links more into solar energy than nuclear.
My dad has visited there though — he works in shipping and the company he used to work for had a contract to move used and reprocessed nuclear fuel from Sellafield to Japan, so he’d often be taken on tours around nuclear power plants! He actually visited Fukushima about a fortnight before their nuclear accident, and has some pictures taken there. The buildings, especially the taller ones, were painted blue and white to blend into the sky and look more natural, which I thought was interesting — a sort of camouflage!
