It would be a very very bad day! The Health and Safety Executive would come to investigate and probably prosecute the organisation who run the plant. The Health and Safety Executive is a government agency who help to enforce the law and keep people safe in all workplaces across the country (not just power plants). They make sure that people learn from mistakes like this so that they don’t happen again.

We do assessments and make sure controls are put in place to make sure that someone getting injured (or worse) is extraordinarily unlikely. For example, there is a clever access system to the key part of the reactor to make sure people can’t just walk in when it is operating. A lot of people provide input and sign off on my reports so it wouldn’t be all my fault if something happened…which it shouldn’t!
