About this Zone

Adipose Tissue and adipocytes. Wikimedia.

Fats are crucial for the functioning of the human body. Different types provide fatty acids for our diet, they keep us warm in the colder months, store excess energy for later in fat cells, they even insulate our organs against shock.

In this zone, you will meet one scientist researching how to keep healthy as we grow older, and another one looking at a hormone in the blood which may help improve our metabolism. There is a Doctor trying to find out what goes wrong with blood vessels when people are obese, a scientist looking at how excersice affects our body, and another person trying to understand why some people have lots of fat in their liver and why this can lead to diseases like diabetes.
