How the Universe began is something that a lot of people talk about. Through scientific research we can see that the Universe had a starting point called the Big Bang (about 13.5 billion years ago), it’s a point where space and time started. That’s pretty mind-blowing stuff. But we can’t currently explain scientifically how the Big Bang started. With really powerful telescopes we can look back all the way to a really small amount of time after the big bang happened, but we can’t see as far back as before the big bang. Physicists and philosophers talk and think a lot about the way that we could go from ‘nothing’ to ‘something’, whether it is possible to create ‘something’ from ‘nothing’ but we don’t know the scientific answers yet to what caused the Big Bang.
I look forward to a time when we might be able to find this out! As a Christian I view scientific research as an exciting way of finding out more about how God works in the Universe.
