I am not an expert on this but my opinion is that we will be either getting on great or be extinct. Because right now either we come up with a heap of great solutions for human-caused issues – climate change, war, biodiversity loss, and other issues that threaten our survival – in which case we’ll be doing just fine in 1000 years time – or we stuff it up and slowly go extinct.
1000 years is quite a short time from an evolutionary perspective. If you think about what humans looked like 1000 years ago, then judging from pictures they painted and archaeological evidence they were physically quite similar to us now (and any differences are more likely to have been due to diet or lifestyle rather than evolution).
Vera is right that we have a lot of human-caused problems to solve in the world at the moment! Who knows, maybe someone taking part in “I’m a Scientist” (scientists or kids!) may be able to help solve these problems.
Unless something major happens, I would expect us to be quite similar to what we are now. I would like to think however that we will have come to our senses and started to look after the natural world a bit more, and stopped killing each other for very little reason.
The major difference will be how we get our energy, because we will have run out of coal, oil and gas by this time. We will have to have developed a good was of getting energy. Think of that as a challenge for yourselves!
Physically, we look as we did 100 years ago. There are fewer differences between people as humans of all groups might have interbred with each other.
But we face some serious problems. Climate change has raised global temperatures and the coastline of the continents have changed dramatically. Hundred of years ago people migrated away from the flooded cities inland. The mass migrations caused civil wars over the limited space remaining. The tropics became uninhabitable.
Fossil fuels have run out and all energy is produced by solar, nuclear, and wind power. A few brave humans have begun to colonise to ocean floor in the squeeze for space, their massive undetwater bases fueled by wave power…
Do you think I would make a good science fiction writier? No, neither do I…
