I have finished my PhD, which took me three years, so now I hope that I will be able to get jobs doing research for the rest of my working life. Since I’m 29 now, I am hoping that will be for 40 years or so!

My resarch is basically a series of smaller projects, each of which takes about 6 months to a year or two to complete. But as soon as one finishes, the next one starts so my research will be never ending (hopefully).

My current research finishes next year in March, after which I should have a PhD. After that I would love to continue doing research somewhere else, probably in something different to what I do now. It is important to do as many different things as possible. Eventually I would like to be a professor.

My personal research will end in March next year as my funding runs out. It would have taken me 3 and a half years.

However, the actual subject will be researched for a long while yet!
