DejaVu in greek means “memory”, it is when you experience that you lived the same thing previously.
I was reading about this a while ago, as far as I remember, the part of our brain that is responsible of turning information into a memory functions faster than the part that is responsible from vision. Usually you see something and then it is stored in your brain but in this case, the opposite happens and you think that what you see is already in your memory even though it is a matter of nanoseconds. Amazing, huh?
Deja vu is the name given to the experience of feeling as though you’ve felt this exact same way at the exact same time and place before. It’s as though you’ve been reminded of something that in reality, has never really happened. (It means “already seen”).
Scientists believe it is something to do with a slight malfunctioning of the electrical discharges in your brain (this is TOTALLY normal and all human beings experience it- it doesn’t mean there is anything wrong with your brain! All our organs can occasionally have hiccups) A similar thing can cause you to jerk suddenly as you’re falling asleep. Ever had that?
Brains are pretty complex and scientists still don’t know everything there is to know about them!
I am not sure that I understand it either! I suppose it is just a feeling that something has happened before – so a certain set of circumstances are repeated and you feel strange because it seems very familiar. It is probably not much more complicated than that!
