Funny, we always talk about this. What is REAL life? I will speak for myself, I do have a lot of life going on outside of the lab. I am a very talkative and energetic person, so people are always shocked when they hear that I am a scientist. This hurts me, but I understand. There is that image of us in public, like we are four eyed weird creatures that do not breath the same air. It is a mistake that scientists older than us did. But I am glad to see that it is changing now.

Back to your question, again, there are a lot of scientists out there and it is hard to categorize all of them. Thanks for the question!

Ha ha- it’s tempting to believe that we have no lives and that we just sit at home every night re-arranging files on our laptops! I promise you that I don’t know ANY scientists or PhD students like that! Personally I enjoy going out with friends and taking holidays to cool places with people. I like going to the cinema, the pub- I like going to music gigs, I like having mates over, I have hobbies and interests outside of science just like anyone else. Life is what you choose to make of it- not what your job dictates- that would just be depressing!

Yes usually!! Right now I am doing so many things that I barely have time for lunch let alone socialising. I think this is how these things go. Sometimes you will not have time to go out but other times you have loads! I am lucky to have a great lab group we all hang out together and if one of us is very busy we all understand.
