I think it really depends on how you define this. I think one of the worst diseases is still thought to be the plague, which killed 60% of London’s population in the middle ages.
Nowadays, the flu can be a pretty deadly disease – the outbreak of swine flu in 2010 killed 300, 000 people.
I agree with Kerry, everyone could give a different answer. I guess if I had to name one it’d be skin cancer – it’s a horribly painful way to die if you have a certain type.
Well, I would define it as the one that kills more people – I’m not sure it matters too much how you die, most people would just prefer to live out their natural lives to see their children grow up and their grandchildren and so on.
But then you have to divide the world up into the rich half and the poor half, because these two halves (I say halves but of course they not exacly half and half) die of rather different causes.
In the third world the major cause of premature death is HIV or AIDS. whereas in the more advanced, richer countries heart related disease, which are basically caused by over-eating, smoking, …
In all cases, one could say that main underlying cause is ignorance. If people knew more about what’s good and bad for them, they might live more safely.
