Each of us works on something very different – if you have a look at our profiles (click on each of our faces) then there’s loads of information about what each of us does.

Loads more information, photos and a video link to cells dividing on my profile page though.
I research motor neurone disease – a disease where our nerves get sick and die. More specifically, I work on one that affects very young children, and how it affects their blood vessels. If we can understand exactly how the disease works and how it affects people, we’ll have a better chance of curing it!

I actually “do” a lot of bureaucratic stuff like meetings, writing reports, signing papers, reading and writing email etc. But then I’m old! As careers progress we do less and less what we did at the beginning (research) and that made it fun and more and more other stuff. But that’s ok, somebody has to do it and it takes experience – and also as you get older the brilliant ideas get harder to come by. I do teach and that I always enjoy immensely.
When I’m feeling inspired or a colleague has an interesting idea I do some sort of calculation in theoretical high-energy particle physics.
