Good question! Incredibly, atoms make up almost everything in the universe! Inside the core of an atom, there are particles called protons which tell us which chemical element the atom is. For example, iron always has 26 protons.

The core of the atom has a cloud of electrons surrounding it, which allows the atom to stick to other atoms, to form a metal alloy like steel.
