Definitely cancer. It affects so many of us, 1 in 3 people will get cancer in their lifetimes. Luckily now a lot of people survive but so many don’t – so helping find a cure to save so many would be great.

I agree with Alex, I would cure cancer. I’m sure all of us will know someone affected by it at some point in our lives, so finding a cure would be wonderful!

Funny you should ask that, Sam Ting is a Nobel prize winning physicist, but except possibly for a famously very hard character, I don’t think he needs curing.
And, of course, being a physicist I’m not normally motivated in what I do by the need to cure people. That said, of course, all of us would like to see human suffering reduced.
So what should we attack? In the western world (so-called developed countries) heart related diseases are at the top of the list (and, for example, cancer actually runs a long way behind), but then most of these are probably mainly induced by modern lifestyles – most people eat too much and badly. In the lesser developed parts of the world AIDS and diseases that can be related to malnutrition are dominant. That is, half the world dies because it eats too much while the other half starves to death.
What’s the real problem then? Ignorance, lack of education – not, not stupidity! If people were educated better in things that matter many, many illnesses and causes of death could be drastically reduced. So, I would cure ignorance (it’s a disease just like any other and frighteningly contagious).

Spinal muscular atrophy – the disease I work on. There’s no way to slow it down or cure it, so it would be great to do something about that!
