      Wow lots of questions.

Funding is really hard, my boss just got some funding for half a million pounds so that’s great news!

Outside of science I used to love English and History.

And I’m engaged, so we’re getting married in just over a year, no kids though.

I’m hoping to get loads of funding! We’ve just applied for a quarter of a million pounds, so hopefully we’ll get it!
My favourite subjects were music and P.E – I was super musical and sporty!
I don’t have any kids or a husband, but I do have a boyfriend =)

Funding is a painful subject at the moment, especially in Italy. There’s not a lot of money around and so not much gets given to the sort of research I do, which is not seen as being so immediately useful. Anyway I’m a theorist, so I mainly need a computer to calculations with and write scientific papers.
Besides science, I’d have to say physical education. I did lots of sports (seriously) at school: rugby, cricket, athletics, badminton, trampoline and occasionally basketball. I was county champio at long jump, finalist in the county championships in badminton and played county rugby – I then got straight A’s at A-levels and went to Cambridge.
So don’t let anyone tell you that sport and study don’t mix, that’s absolute rubbish.
Two kids (Alberto, 15 and Alice 13 – both play rugby) and my wife Sandra is a physicist too (working on experiments at CERN, Geneva).
