You have roughly 650 muscles which are normally divided into three types.
There’s skeletal which are the muscles that help you move. Smooth muscle which is found within some of your organs and then Cardiac Muscle – so the muscle which makes your heart keep beating.
But aside from that every hair on your body is connected to its own little muscle – so that’s about 5 million! Think about when you get cold and you get “goose bumps” where your hairs are standing on end.
Then the smallest blood vessels in your body called capillaries all have their own tiny muscle which allows them to control how much blood flows down them. So add on another 2 billion!
So you’ll often hear people say 650 which is technically correct – but they’re missing all the really tiny muscles which makes it about 2.5 billion!!
