Wow great question, I’ve had shingles before a few years ago and it was horrible!!

Shingles is caused by the same virus as chickenpox, and you don’t normally get it until you’re over 60 years old. Viruses are much harder to treat than bacterial infections, so it isn’t easy.

There are some drugs that if delivered in the first 2 days of shingles can help stop the virus infecting other cells so help your body fight it off quicker. If you don’t catch it that fast then sadly there aren’t any drugs that will help and it’ll be up to your body’s immune system to fight it off, which can take about three weeks.
