I believe that people should be free to believe in what they want to believe in, being a scientist does not mean you cannot be religious…quite the opposite, I know many people in science who actively practice a religion. I myself am not particularly religious. I was raised a christian and so hold many of the values and teachings however I don’t believe there is a higher-being but I do respect those who do think so, their beliefs are very valid too.

Personally, I am an atheist. However, lots of scientists are religious, and it is certainly not incompatible for a person to be a scientist and to have a faith. There are some questions, like whether a god exists, that I believe science can’t answer.
I would say though that there are some claims sometimes held by religions that are incompatible with a scientific worldview. For example, I don’t think someone can believe the world was created 5000 years ago and also claim to believe in the scientific method.

Personally I don’t have any religious beliefs, but there are plenty of people in science that follow all different kinds of religions. Religion and science are not necessarily opposing!

That’s actually a very interesting question. I think that science and religion are not necessarily against each other. Your profession is not important, and eveyone should be able to feel free to have any religious beliefs.
Most British scientist I have worked with, do not practise any religion, however, I have worked with many international scientist such as French, Saudi Arabian, Indian, Iraqui, Moroccan who had strong religious beliefs and were wonderful scientists.
