HI, thanks for your question. Well I think it’s great fun being a scientist. It can be hard sometimes (especially when things don’t work out how you expect…for the third, forth…EIGHT time) but I secretly like the challenges science brings. It’s also a very varied career, as it is unlikely that ay one day will be the same as the last and there are always new and exciting things to look at.

Depends what type of scientist you are!

I have been a researcher in a lab, working through the night because I am searching for that next piece of evidence. I have been testing new pieces of equipment to see if they work. I have worked in both chemistry and biology labs, and trust me – they are *very* different!

You can also be a scientist under the sea, on the sea, or in Antarctica, or in space! You can work at a computer designing new molecules, you can work in the middle of nowhere finding new species, or you can work in a library. You don’t have to wear a white lab coat and goggles to be a scientist. There are plenty of other ways to work as one.

It is great being a scientist, especially in sports. We get to work with some amazing people from world class Olympic and Paralympic athletes through to people who have illnesses and disabilities. We get to run research studies where we collect data while people exercise, both in a the laboratory but also while people are outside. There are times when it becomes difficult when you have to analyse the data and when the results to agree with what you were hoping for.

for me …being a scientist means being really busy !

trying to set up research projects that answer questions

      teaching students all about science

and chatting with school students online 🙂

Being a scientist means to be curious and imaginative all the time. We have to come up with experiments and perform them, analyse data. After this, we write up about it so that the world can know what we’ve done.

Sometimes, things don’t go the way we plan them, experiments don’t work and our findings are not what we expected. So being a scientist also means being very patient!
