      A Mass Spectrometer is an analytical chemistry bit of equipment that is sued to see what something is made of .

      We take a sample …for instance your breath….and they sample of breath will get broken down into its smallest components (bits) and then pushed along a very very long tube (called a column) the different bits all get stuck on the tube at different places depending upon their shape and size. We can then look at each tiny bit and see what it is. We then know exactly what the sample (your breath) is made of.

      The benefit is that we can see very very small bits and not just the big molecules like Oxygen/
