• Question: Why do different polymers have different properties?

      Well we can look at two common polymers as an example and these would be polystyrene and polyethylene. Polystyrene is made from a monomer called styrene which has 8 carbons. Polyethylene is made from a monomer called ethene which has 2 carbons. Already the fact that these 2 compounds don’t have the same number carbons, makes their properties different too. These would be properties such as boiling point and freezing point for example. Therefore the polymers we get from these compounds would also have different properties.
