Actually believe it or not, I also imagine we might be driving flying cars.

It depends on the what particular book/film you mean… I might not buy into Star Wars/ Star Trek but I am really intrigued by Black Mirror- it’s a new TV series, have you heard about it?

Each episode is based in “near future” and features a technology which is really not that far away from being in the market (e.g. cameras in the eyes, robot-boyfriends) – scary but really thought provoking!

I don’t suppose we have any real way of knowing- but I don’t think authors are too concerned about how accurate their worlds are- they just try to imagine the most interesting version of the possible future to capture the imagination of their readers.
Some things from science fiction aren’t too far off though, for example jet packs were something that was imagined by the world of science fiction and then became a reality- they are used by space travelling astronauts to get around and have been used by some on earth too.

      Maybe, who knows!

Im sure once upon a time mobile phones and even cars were classed as science fiction…
