I usually try to understand where they are coming from!
For example, in some friendship groups it is “cooler” to be good at football than science… (ugh this is how I remember my high school at least 😉 luckily I managed to find like minded people later on!)
Some people are more inclined to other types of tasks. Science (I assume you mean physical science here) requires lots of analytical thinking and focus. I know people how cannot get their heads around maths but they’re brilliant in arts, mechanics or singing. I’d say people like this need an interesting kind of science engagement – more more interactive than standard lessons – hopefully this event will give everyone a chance to find science *exciting*!
Being a scientist isn’t for everyone- just like not everyone enjoys sports, and not everyone enjoys singing and dancing- and that’s fine!
But I do think that perhaps if students are saying science is boring then maybe it isn’t being taught in the right way, and that’s a shame.
A bit sad, as I love it! Science isn’t for everyone, and its good for people to have different interests. But don’t knock it until you’ve tried it! (and that applies to anything, not just science)
