The first time I saw my name on an academic paper was certainly a highlight! It was based on the work that I did during my Masters project and it was really nice to know that the work I did had been accepted by the scientific community as a whole!

I improved the yield of my protein by 17,300% which I was very very proud of. It’s made my job and the jobs of the researchers who work on the same project after me so much easier!

I worked on a difficult project for over a year and I couldn’t get anything to work. By working hard and using all the information/skills I learnt during my PhD I was finally able to get the project to work well and get some very exciting results!

My biggest achievement was during my Master’s project when I created tiny particles which can be used to treat cancer, without the horrible side effects that a lot of current cancer drugs give. They could be directed to specifically where the tumour was, and then only affected the tumour and a minimal amount of the surrounding tissue.

Sadly I wasn’t able to continue the project as PhD funding was dropped.

I managed to analyse the composition of some cosmetics that were used by Egyptian people thousands of years ago!
