When acid reacts with a metal, it forms a salt plus hydrogen gas. So, for example, if a spacecraft went into the atmosphere of Venus (where the clouds are made of sulphuric acid) and it had something on the outside made of a metal such as magnesium, then the acid would react with the magnesium to make the salt magnesium sulphate.
