In my small research group (8) we have gender equality, which is great. You can look for the Athena Swan award in different departments at universities, although this doesn’t tell the whole picture. At school I was the only girl to study physics at A-Level, and in undergrad level it was about 1/5 of us who were girls studying a branch of Physics. In my School of Earth & Environment there is a better gender balance than there was in my Physics. There are changes, it’s just slow.

yeah, lookup Athena Swan awards because at least some people will have thought about gender (and the many other) equality aspects.

In my large research group, there are around 20% women, so nowhere near gender equal. Things are slowly improving, and luckily efforts are being made to improve this situation.

Yes and no! It’s a tricky question. There’s definitely a lot of discrimination and issues in physics and astronomy that exists, especially towards women and minorities. On the plus side, there’s loads of people trying to make physics and astronomy more equal, through extra support, funding, events, and awareness. On the whole, things are getting better in terms of equality. 🙂
