      I do, mostly because that’s what a lot of professional astronomers believe and I figure they would know best.

      Yes. Science is about consensus and evidence. At present all the evidence, such as the expansion of the universe, red shift, and cosmic microwave background radiation points to this.

      Yes, I believe in the Big Bang.

      As Megan said, there is lots of different evidence that suggests that the Universe is expanding. Astronomers have worked out how quickly the Universe is expanding, and have been able to track it back to a single point and time.

      I think the theory is that before the Big Bang, every piece of the matter in the Universe was contained at a really small point, which had a lot of mass. Something happened, and it caused the point to explode and everything within it to start expanding outwards.
