Compound fractures are the nasty looking ones! If a broken bone sticks through your skin, then it’s a compound fracture. 😮

Another way to describe simple and compound fractures is : closed and open fractures. If the skin is closed around the break then it is simple, if it is open around the break then it is compound- these are the ones that look really gross.

You also have partial and complete fractures. Partial fractures are ones where you have a greenstick or hairline- the bone is not entirely separate. Complete fractures are where the bone complete comes apart in some way.
