If you want to become a scientist, you should aim to study science subjects (e.g. biology, chemistry, physics) at school. After that, you can apply to study your favourite science at university. I studied chemistry and biology at school, then I did a degree in zoology (animal biology) at university.

After finishing university, if you’d like to do scientific research, the next step is to do a PhD. A PhD usually lasts 3 or 4 years and involves studying one specific subject (e.g. crayfish!) in great depth. A PhD is the biggest bit of training a scientist has to do. After finishing your PhD, you are officially a ‘doctor’, i.e. an expert scientist in that subject, and can continue to do more research.

      Hope that answers your question!
