Good question! You probably noticed that crayfish and lobsters look very similar! The two animals are related (they’re both types of crustacean) but the main difference is that lobsters are found in salt water whereas crayfish are found in freshwater. Also, lobsters tend to be bigger. There are lots of similarities in the ecology of the two species – in both lobsters and crayfish, the female animal lays eggs which she keeps safe on the underside of her body until they hatch. Both lobsters and crayfish dig burrows and can be very territorial too.
