• Question: when will the sun explode. how powerful will the explosion be

      Hi petrolhead918spyder,

      The sun won’t explode, but actually expand from its present size to a size where it almost engulfs and swallows the Earth. It will roast Earth at close range and then shrink down to a tiny and very cold dwarf star. Thankfully this won’t be for 5 billion years!

      The sun won’t explode because it doesn’t have enough mass. It would need to be at least 8 to 12 times more massive to be able to explode like supernova’s.
