There’s actually a group in our department called Astro-ecology. They use similar technology that astronomers use (like infrared) to look for poachers and protect endangered animals.

Lot’s of ways. Scientists studying animals help spot which ones are endangered to start with. Then science can help us understand what different animals need to survive properly, and what it is that humans do that causes problems. And then science can help us create new technologies that stop humans from causing the problems.
We know that plastic builds up in the oceans and this is a big problem affecting creatures that live there. So scientists are researching new chemistry and material science to make plastics that will biodegrade in water.
