Hmm in way – they always encouraged me to do whatever I enjoyed and they were always supportive. They had no idea about science though! Going to uni open days really helped me work out whether or not a science course was for me.
Just try and get as much experience as you can (even if it’s just trying things out for a day! Or volunteering) and do what you enjoy and it will all fall into place 🙂
Also, you have to remember… as much as your parents will be trying to help you, they won’t know about ALL careers out there. So it’s important to do your own research 🙂
Studying STEM leads to lots of fantastic careers, not just being a scientist. E.g. I have friends from my course who are scientists, people working in communications and marketing (like me), working in Government, working as patent lawyers, in business etc.
