Because we should always try to explore the unknown

You need to understand how things work in order to do interesting things with them.

iPhones, TV, aeroplanes – they work because we understand enough about how the electrons and atoms that comprise them work.

Atom colliders are necessary for us to understand how certain things smaller than electrons and atoms work.

I think it’s to find out several things like whether there are particles smaller than protons and electrons, how the universe began and if we can find an unlimited source of energy, but don’t quote me I’m not a physicist!

The Large Hadron Collider was built by the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) so that they could do tests in the area of high-energy physics. The results are apparently helping to examine the theory of the Big Bang because they are throwing together atoms racing at increadible speeds in conditions simulating those just after the Big Bang. This is not my area of expertise at all so I hope this is of some use.
