Sometimes religion and science are directly opposed, so yes sometimes religion can slow down scientific development. For eample, Ssome religions are against certain kinds of scientific experiments such as cloning and it can be difficult (or impossible) to resolve these differences between the two sides.

Yes. But I accept that as part of living in a democracy. Getting rid of democracy would slow down scientific development even more. So the current pace will have to do.

Considering peoples religious beliefs is an important part of scientific development. Peoples faiths guide their views on morality and as scientific technology develops is is important to discuss the consequences and outcomes. There are some religious views that individuals may find frustrating and view as stalling scientific development in some areas but everyone is entiled to their opinions.

Yeh I definitely think it can. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing. I think society generally has to be consulted as science progresses – just cos we can do something doesn’t mean we should. I’m sure there are some parts of the world where science has been slowed too much, but I don’t think that’s the case in the UK at the moment.
