      Hi 228drug38,

Well , one of the great things about being a scientist is that you can start businesses based on your research! As a scientist you are trying to discover and develop new things. This means that if you discover the right thing, and can see a commercial application then you can start a business! It all depends on if you make the right discovery 😉

Normally these business ventures can be high risk / high reward. One example from my department is a group who work on developing more efficient solar panels… If they develop cheap solar cells that are capable of absorbing enough sunlight that hit them, then you could permanently power a house with a few panels on the roof… and for example a solar array in the sahara desert could provide enough energy for the whole planet! If they were to be successful, then as you can imagine they would be rich beyond their wildest dreams!

While at school, I never really considered studying business at university though. I think my talents lay elsewhere… I always thought that I could learn business skills if/when I needed them!

      Steve
